Groton Officer Promoted to Sergeant

The promotion will be formally announced the evening of Monday, Oct. 19, in the Municipal Building.

Please join us in congratulating Officer Peter Miller who will be promoted to Sergeant tonight [Monday, Oct. 19] at 7:30 p.m. at the Municipal Building.

Peter Miller was raised in the City of Groton and has a strong family history here. He is a descendant of both Jordan Freeman and Lambert Latham, who were instrumental in the Battle of Fort Griswold in 1781.

After attending the Groton school systems and participating in various programs through the City of Groton Parks and Recreation, Miller continued his education at Thames Valley State Technical College, where he studied computer programming.

Miller was hired as a patrolman for the City of Groton Police Department in 2001. Since being hired, he has received a number of achievements. He is a three time MADD (Mother’s Against Drunk Driving) award recipient and the 2014 Groton City Police Officer of the Year. Miller is also a certified FTO (Field Training Officer), CIT (Crisis Intervention Officer) and bicycle certified. He has also received several unit citations and Chief’s Award.
