Groton Police Announce Increased Holiday Patrols: PD

Police will also increase their presence and enforcement of school bus stop violations.

GROTON, CT — City police announced this week there will be an increase in patrols during peak travel times and on weekends to "identify and apprehend" people operating while under the influence. The increased patrols are made possible by a recently acquired grant.

"This will allow us to do our part to ensure all enjoy this holiday season safely and we do our part to deter drinking and driving that can take a joyous holiday to a tragic one," police said in a release.

Police will also increase their presence and enforcement of school bus stop violations, as the department has had complaints of drivers passing through the flashing red lights of buses picking up kids on their way to school.

"We also had an individual arrested for DWI after striking an unoccupied bus," police said. "This is unacceptable and we will take steps to ensure this stops."

According to police, anyone caught passing a school bus with red lights activated will be fined $470. Police will be observing city school bus routes in unmarked vehicles.
