Man Charged In Groton 2020 Hookah Lounge Shooting: Police

Police have charged a man in connection with a shooting at a hookah lounge in 2020.

GROTON, CT — Police have made an arrest in connection with a 2020 shooting at a hookah lounge in Groton. Raashid N. Cox, 32, of New London, was charged with first-degree assault, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal use of a weapon, and first-degree reckless endangerment.

Groton Town police responded to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital on Oct. 4, 2020, for a shooting victim who had suffered a single gunshot wound to the arm. Police determined that the shooting occurred during an altercation at the Midnight Hookah Lounge, 403 Pleasant Valley Road South in Groton, at about 3:45 a.m.

The victim, a 27-year-old man, had been transported to the hospital in a vehicle, according to police. The victim's injuries were not considered life threatening at the time.

The Groton Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) developed Cox as a
suspect in the shooting. Police secured an arrest warrant for Cox related to the shooting.

Cox was eventually located by the Department of Corrections Parole Division and was remanded to custody.

Groton police served Cox with the arrest warrant Monday in New London Superior Court where he was to be arraigned.

He was held on $250,000 bond.
