Groton Police Warn Residents Of Phone Scams: PD

Police ask residents to become familiar with common types of scams.

GROTON, CT — After receiving several reports of a kidnapping/hostage scam, Groton town police are reminding residents that phone scams are still a popular crime.

Police said on Facebook that a phone call scam will commonly express an urgent situation, and you will be asked to send an electronic payment in order to resolve the issue or avoid damages.

"Please stop and think about the reality of the situation," police said on Facebook. "Take the caller's number for callback or simply tell them you are not interested in playing along. If you are still concerned about the situation, take a minute to verify whether the situation is true or not."
