Groton School Officials Speak About Magnet School Conversion

A recent presentation offered information regarding the conversion of two Groton middle schools into magnet schools.

GROTON, CT — A presentation Tuesday night on the conversion of Groton's two middle schools into magnet schools drew a large crowd, as reported by the New London Day. School officials said the transformation will begin with the 2018-19 school year.

According to the Day, West Side Middle School is set to become West Side STEM Magnet Middle School, and Cutler Middle School will soon be Cutler Arts & Humanities Magnet Middle School. Each school will remain open solely to students living in Groton.

The Day also reported that some parents raised concerns about having students choose between an interest in STEM or arts and humanities at such a young age. Two more programs on the transition are set to take place in March.
