Groton Town Manager Encourages Face Mask Use

Groton's town manager said it's important for people to use face masks to help protect essential workers.

GROTON, CT — John Burt, Groton Town Manager, has released the following statement supporting the use of face masks:

As we continue social distancing in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, I am strongly urging everyone to wear protective face coverings when traveling to grocery stores and pharmacies.
Employees at these stores are putting their lives on the line working hard to help provide us with essential necessities that better enable us to stay at home. It is up to all of us to do what we can to protect our essential workers by doing everything we can to keep them and us healthy.

To further protect our essential workers and help ensure these stores will stay open to meet your needs, please only send one person per household to the store at a time. If the stores are too crowded it becomes difficult to maintain proper social distancing with workers and customers.
Additionally, despite one way aisles at grocery stores, I regularly see shoppers pass each other in close proximity to get around one another. Narrow aisles make it very difficult to always keep at the safe 6’ social distance. Wearing a face covering is for all of our benefit.
