Groton's Former Police Chief Arrested for Burglary, Stalking Charges

Michael Crowley of Mystic was indicted in Maine.

Former Groton Police Chief and Mystic resident Michael Crowley, 56, was indicted by a grand jury in Maine on the following charges:

  • Two felony burglary charges
  • Misdemeanor charges of stalking, criminal trespass and harassment via telephone

The former chief retired in February 2014 but prior to that, he was placed on administrative by the town manager, The Day reported. The reasons for the leave were not disclosed.

In December 2013, Crowley was approved for family medical leave. According to The Day, an emergency at his house occurred one day before Crowley was placed on administrative leave.

Groton Public Safety Committee Chairman Rich Moravsik said Crowley had a medical issue but did not elaborate.
