Lisbon Man Charged In Groton Robbery, Assault Of Elderly Man: PD

Michael Boden, 30, was charged after police say he assaulted a man, 67, in a Groton parking lot and then stole his truck with a dog inside.

GROTON, CT —A Lisbon man has been charged after a 67-year-old man was assaulted, and his truck stolen with his dog inside, in the parking lot of a Route 12 shopping plaza, Groton police said.

Groton Town Police said that Thursday night around 6:30 p.m., a man was returning to his vehicle after shopping when he was "robbed and assaulted." He suffered non-life-threatening injuries, which were treated at the scene, police said. During the assault, police said, Michael A. Boden, 30, stole the elderly victim’s car keys and fled in his 2017 Ford F-150 pickup truck, with the victim’s dog inside. Police said while fleeing the Groton Square parking lot, the truck hit another car before heading northbound on Route 12. Neighboring police departments were alerted to be on the lookout, police said.

Less than 30 minutes later, Norwich Police Department officers found the victim's truck after it crashed into a telephone pole on Route 12. Boden, who was located nearby the crash scene, was identified by witnesses, police said, as the person driving the truck. The man's dog was found in the truck with minor injures as a result of the collision, and was soon reunited with its owner.

Boden was arrested "without incident," police said. He was charged with first-degree larceny, second-degree assault of an elderly person, third-degree robbery, second-degree criminal trover, second-degree breach of peace and cruelty to animals. Boden was held on a $125,000 bail, according to court records.

Following the incident, he was also faces Norwich Police motor vehicle violations, court records show.

Boden was charged in 2020 by Norwich police with myriad charges including assault. That case has not been adjudicated, per court records.
