Man Attempts to Sexually Assault Girl and Male Teen Who Protected Her: New London Police
A fight broke out after a 15-year-old male tried to stop a man who allegedly attempted to sexually assault a 9-year-old girl.

New London Police officers were called to Grand Street on Monday, Sept. 1, after receiving a call about two men fighting in the street.
Upon arrival, they encountered a more complicated situation. Police learned that the fight broke out when Clayton Denny, 37, of an unknown address, allegedly restrained a 9-year-old girl and tried to make her perform a sexual act on him.
“The female victim was able to escape and ran to her home with Denny pursuing her,” New London Police stated in a press release. “A 15-year-old male saw what was happening and stopped Denny at the door. Denny tried to sexually assault the 15-year-old male and they began to fight.”

Police said Denny fled the area and was several blocks away when police saw him hiding in a rear yards of 37 Spring St. After a struggle, he was taken into custody and charged with:
- Criminal Attempt/Sexual Assault in the First Degree
- Risk of Injury to a Minor (2 Counts)
- Unlawful Restraint in the First Degree
- Resisting Arrest
- Breach of Peace
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Denny was held on a $250,000 bond. He received the following additional charges related to two outstanding arrest warrants for:

- Violation of a Standing Criminal Protective Order
- Burglary in the Second Degree
- Violation of a Protective Order
- Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree
- Disorderly Conduct
