GROTON, CT — A man accused in the homicide of a Vermont woman was caught by police in Groton following an investigation spanning three states, according to a statement from U.S. Marshals.

Police took Shawn Conlon, 44, of Rhode Island, into custody at a hotel on Gold Star Highway in Groton. U.S. Marshals in Connecticut and Rhode Island, assisted by Rhode Island State Police and Groton police, arrested Conlon.

He has been identified as a suspect in the strangulation death of Claudia Voight, 73, who was killed in her Windham, Vermont home Feb. 20.

Police obtained an arrest warrant Monday and brought in help from the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force to catch Conlon.

The U.S. Marshals' investigation started in Rhode Island, then shifted to Groton where it was determined Conlon had traveled following a Vermont State Police investigation.

Conlon was transported to the Groton Police Department where he was processed and held for arraignment. He will be extradited back to Vermont to face a second-degree homicide charge.

Heidi Voight wrote in a social media post following her mother's death: "Claudia Voight was stolen from this world. She was stolen from her family, from her children, and from my precious daughters who now ask me almost every day, 'Why did Grandma go to Heaven?'"
