More Details Released On I-95 Bridge Project For Groton, New London

GROTON, CT — The Connecticut Department of Transportation has released information about upcoming work on the Gold Star Memorial Bridge on I-95 between Groton and New London.

Overnight work will begin Saturday, May 30, at 8 p.m. and extend into the next morning, ending at 8 a.m.

This will involve the installation of the I-95 northbound crossover and lane closures will be in effect.

Then on Sunday, May 31, a new traffic configuration will be in effect, which will remain for four years.

Through traffic on the northbound side of the highway will use two lanes that will cross over to the southbound bridge.

Local traffic for New London and Downtown Groton will use two lanes remaining on the existing northbound bridge.

Exit 86 will be accessible only via the I-95 crossover lanes. Exit 85 will be accessible only via the northbound bridge local lanes.

The major bridge rehabilitation project has a cost of $900 million and is expected to continue through fall 2030.
