Mystic Crash Leaves 4 In Critical Condition: Police

Four people needed to be extricated from an SUV after it left the road and struck a tree early Monday morning, according to police.

MYSTIC, CT — Four people are in critical condition following a crash in Mystic early Monday morning, according to Town of Groton police.

Police received calls regarding a single-vehicle crash on Fishtown Road near Little Gull Lane at 1:21 a.m.

Police responded and found that a Toyota 4Runner left the road and crashed into the woods, trapping all four people in the SUV.

All four people needed to be extricated by emergency crews. Emergency responders included the Mystic, Old Mystic, and Noank fire departments, as wells as Groton Ambulance Association, Mystic River Ambulance, North Stonington Ambulance, Lawrence & Memorial Paramedics, and Mohegan Tribe Paramedics.

The victims were treated at the scene, then taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in critical condition, according to police.

An initial investigation found that the Toyota was driving north on Fishtown Road just south of Mystic River Magnet School when it went across the southbound lane and left the road, striking a tree.

Fishtown Road remained closed while the accident was under investigation. The

Southeastern Connecticut Regional Traffic Unit is assisting in the investigation.
