New All-Democratic Groton Town Council Sworn In

Groton's newly elected Town Council members have been sworn in.

GROTON, CT - Nine newly elected democrats were sworn in as Groton Town Council members Tuesday night, the New London Day reported. Councilor Patrice Granatosky was then unanimously elected as town mayor.

Granatosky told an audience of about 40 people the new council's priorities included advocating for strong schools to assure equal opportunity for all students, according to the New London Day. They also hope to safeguard the town's natural beauty by developing its parks and recreation.

The new council was also asked by a former councilor to give residents more opportunities to speak during meetings, the New London Day reported. Residents are currently not allowed to speak when the council meets as a committee of the whole.
