Obituary: Larry A. Yering, 71, of Groton

He had been a softball umpire and a basketball referee for 44 years.

Larry A. Yering age 71 of Groton passed away on Thursday morning, December 15, 2016 at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London.

He was born in New London on February 8, 1945 the son of Charles and Laura Giordani Yering. Larry was married to Barbara Ebbinghaus on February 8, 1969 in Groton and she survives. Larry attended the University of Hartford and had worked for 48 years at Electric Boat Company. He had been a softball umpire and a basketball referee for 44 years. He was a member and past president of both the ASA Umpires, Eastern Board 8 and the IAABO Board 8. Larry was also an associate member of the Submarine Veterans Club.

Larry served in the Connecticut National Guard from 1967 until 1973.Besides his wife he is survived by a son Erik and his wife Merriann Yering, a daughter, Cynthia and her husband Elward L. Williams, Jr all of Groton and four grandchildren, Thomas and Jordan Yering ,Hope Warrington and Thomas Williams.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday morning, December 20 at 11 o’clock at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, Groton. Interment with Military Honors will be in Colonel Ledyard Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Monday evening from 5 until 8 at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St.
