One Week Old Ducklings Living In Bathtub
When They Get Big, You Can Visit Them At Terra Firma Farm
Every Tuesday morning, my kids and I do the farm chores at Terra Firma Farm. All winter, my daughter Nell has been checking the barn for Indian Runner duck eggs. Five Tuesdays ago, she came home with three eggs that may or may not have frozen overnight and put them in an incubator for four weeks. Twenty-eight days later, the three eggs hatched, one of them right before our very eyes.
I have never seen the hatching process this closely. The eggs rocked and rolled for a day, then a small hole appeared on top of each egg, and a couple of hours later out popped three ducklings.
The three ducklings are now a week old and living in our bathtub. They are messy little birds. I swear they poop their weight in soggy duck mash every day. But they are cheerful and adventurous and hands-down adorable. We’ll keep them until they get too big for the tub. And then you can visit them at Terra Firma Farm.
