Opening Reception -USS NAUTILUS (USN 571) 60TH ANNIVERSARY ART EXHIBITION

The public is cordially invited to an Opening Reception to be held Sunday, September 7, from 3-5pm at the City of Groton Municipal Building

The City of Groton Summer in the City is pleased to announce the USS NAUTILUS (SSN 571) ART EXHIBITION, a celebration of the USS NAUTILUS 60th ANNIVERSARY and in recognition of the Silent Service, its history in Groton, its contributions to the Groton Community and life along the Thames River. The public is cordially invited to an Opening Reception to be held Sunday, September 7, from 3-5pm at the City of Groton Municipal Building on Meridian Street.

The show is a juried exhibition of artwork in all painting media, as well as photography, sculpture, mixed media.   Awards of Best in Show, Honorable Mention and Captain’s Choice will be announced at the Opening Reception. Judges for the show are Karen Barthelson, Director, Mystic Arts Center; David Madacsi, Co-Director, Alexey von Schlippe Gallery at UConn Avery Point; and Captain Carl Lahti, Commanding Officer, US Sub Base New London.

The USS NAUTILUS EXHIBITION will be on view at the City of Groton Municipal Building through September 12 during regular business hours, and at the Summer in the City Thames Street Celebration on September 14, between 11am and 6pm. The show then moves to the Submarine Force Museum and Library where it will be open to the public from September 17 through October 13. All three sites offer free admission; and most work included in the show will be available for purchase.
