Police Investigate Report of Shots Fired In Groton: UPDATE

Police are investigating after receiving a report of possible gunfire overnight.

GROTON, CT – Police said Thursday they are investigating a report of possible gunfire with no apparent victims overnight in Groton. There is no threat to the public, police said.

According to a news release, police responded to Midway Oval in the area of Miami Court at approximately 12:53 a.m. Thursday for a report of gun shots being fired. Officers subsequently discovered evidence consistent with a weapon being fired in the area, police said.

Detectives responded to the scene to assume the investigation and are in the process of gathering information, police said. At this time there is no indication that anyone was hit by gunfire, police said.

An area of Midway Oval was closed for several hours to facilitate the investigation, however it has since been reopened.
