Poquonnock Bridge Firefighters Thank Supporters; Board Meeting Cancelled

A Poquonnock Bridge Fire District board was cancelled, but those protesting the layoffs of nine firefighters showed up and lent support to the Poquonnock Bridge firefighters.

A Thursday, July 10, meeting of the Poquonnock Bridge Fire District board was reportedly cancelled due to lack of quorum, but between 200 to 250 people were reportedly in attendance to support the firefighters. 

Members of Submarine Base Firefighters Local F-219 and Center Groton Fire Department attended to show their support. According to The Day, supporters from out of state, as well as Connecticut towns, were in attendance.

The firefighters were given 30-days notice in June 2014, according to WTNH. Nine firefighters were laid off after budget cuts, WTNH reported
