Portia Bordelon Top Vote-Getter In Groton Democrat Primary

Ten candidates vied for nine spots on the Groton Town Council. In the primary Tuesday, Democrat Conrad Heede did not make the cut.

GROTON, CT — Portia Bordelon is the top vote-getter after the Democratic primary election for a seat on the Groton Town Council with 970 votes, according to Groton Town Clerk Betsy Moukawsher.

Ten candidates competed for nine spots on the council for a two-year term, Dec, 7, 2021 to Dec. 5, 2023.

Candidate Conrad Heede was the one candidate that did not make the cut.

"The results tonight show that my advocacy resonates with families all across Groton," Bordelon posted to Facebook.

"I look forward to working with my colleagues on the current council to continue to improve our town and rebuild our Democratic Party to better reflect the ideals of inclusion, equity, and diversity which make me proud to be a Democrat."

2. Aundré Bumgardner got 773 votes.
3. Melinda Cassiere received 763 votes.
4. Juan Melendez garnered 757 votes.
5. Juliette Parker got 739 votes.
6. Rachael Franco received 684 votes.
7. Bruce Jones got 673 votes.
8. Edward Jacome garnered 670 votes.
9. David McBride received 666 votes.

10. Conrad Heede received 607 votes.
