Prostitution Investigation Leads to Arrest of 2 Men

The Groton City Police Dept. arrested two Rhode Island men after they allegedly tried to employ a woman "for monetary gains," police said.

The Groton City Police Department arrested two men Thursday, April 7, after an investigation into human trafficking was conducted.

According to the Town of Groton Police Department, two men allegedly "attempted to employ a female for monetary gains to further their criminal enterprise."

Two Arrests Made

Jason A. Maciel, 23, of 11 Tiernan Ave., Warwick, R.I. was charged with promoting prostitution in the second degree.

John W. Ostrowski, 53, of 7 River St., West Warwick, R.I. was charged with conspiracy to commit promoting prostitution in the second degree and carrying a weapon in a motor vehicle.

"Seized during this investigation was a BMW sedan and an electronic stun gun," police said. "Maciel and Ostrowski were both held on bond."

The arrests were made with assistance from the Regional Community Enhancement Task Force, which is comprised of detectives and officers from southeastern Connecticut. The task force was formed to combat the drug and heroin epidemic in the area and to improve the local citizens' quality of life.
