School District Hopes To Reduce School Bus Costs In Groton

The Groton school district is looking to reduce school bus costs​ through the use of new technology and a new position.

GROTON, CT - The Groton school district is looking to reduce school bus costs through the use of new technology and a new position, the New London Day reported. It also hopes to reduce the number of buses needed for the school year.

To achieve this goal, the school district has hired an assistant transportation coordinator to work alongside the current transportation coordinator, according to the New London Day. The district will also be implementing the bus routing software it purchased last year to aid in this cause. District officials the number of full-size buses for each school year will also be reduced from 48 to 46, the New London Day reported. Officials said each school bus costs approximately $58,000 a year to operate.
