State Representatives Secure Funding For Gold Star Bridge

The funding will rehabilitate the southbound side of the Gold Star Bridge and begin rehabilitation of the northbound side.

NEW LONDON, CT — State Representative Joe De La Cruz (Democrat-Groton/New London) and State Representative Christine Conley (Democrat-Groton/Ledyard) are applauding the State Bond Commission for investing nearly $123 million toward the renovation and improvement of the Gold Star Bridge.

“The Gold Star Bridge is a vital part of the New London and Groton communities,” de la Cruz said in a release. “By investing in our transportation and infrastructure, we are investing in our economy. I am extremely pleased this phase of the project is underway as it will increase the safety of our commuters and decrease travel time. I look forward to seeing the completed project and will continue to support projects that invest in our transportation and economy.”

“Gold Star may be the most important transportation structure in our region and its integrity must be maintained,” Conley said in a release. “It is the economic engine for Groton, New London, and all of Southeastern Connecticut. I thank the Bond Commission members for approving funds that will breathe new life into this landmark bridge.”
