State Senator From Groton Announces Re-Election Bid

State Senator Heather Somers of Groton has announced she will seek re-election in November.

GROTON, CT — State Senator Heather Somers (R-Conn.) of Groton has announced she will seek re-election in November, the New London Day reported. She was elected in November 2016 to serve the 18th District.

The Day reports that prior to her election, Somers had served as a Groton town councilor for eight years, including two years serving as Groton town mayor.

According to her website, Somers is a native of Groton. She previously served as Chairman of the Council’s Economic Development Committee and served on the Finance and Public Health committees, as well as the Utilities Expansion Steering Committee.

The 18th District includes Griswold, Groton, North Stonington, Plainfield, Preston, Sterling, Stonington and Voluntown.
