State Troopers Find $2.9 M Worth of Cocaine Following Routine Groton Traffic Stop

The two men were weaving in and out of traffic, but state troopers eventually found much more.

GROTON, CT- State Troopers from Montville arrested two Rhode Island men Wednesday after seizing 29 kilograms of cocaine following a motor vehicle traffic stop.

While monitoring traffic on I-95 northbound near Exit 88 in Groton due to construction, troopers spotted tow cars weaving in and out of traffic. Both cars had Rhode Island plates, according to a release.

The first vehicle was a 2012 Nissan Maxima, operated by Arnulfo Hiciano. The second was a 2014 Black Dodge Ram Truck, operated by Giovanni Carmona.

After stopping the cars, troopers had a K-9 investigate Hiciano’s car and found two cardboard boxes in the trunk filled with 29 kilograms of drugs. In addition to the $2.9 million worth of drugs, police also found $5,472.

After learning the two men were traveling together, both were arrested on charges of possessing cocaine, intent to sell it and failure to maintain established lanes. They were held on $100,000 bond and are scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
