Driver Arrested In Groton Crash That Seriously Injured Passenger: CSP
The Westerly, RI suspect was the driver of the car that crashed on I-95 southbound in May 2023, according to Connecticut State Police.
GROTON, CT — A 24-year-old Westerly, Rhode Island man was arrested Monday by Connecticut State Police on a warrant charging him in connection with a May 2023 crash in Groton that seriously injured a Ledyard woman, who was a passenger in the vehicle.
Caleb Mikeworth turned himself in at Connecticut State Police Troop E-Montville, and was charge with the following:
- Reckless Endangerment, 2nd Degree
- Illegal Operation of a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs
- Speeding > 70 MPH Limited Access Highway
- Failure to Maintain Proper Lane
- Assault, 2nd Degree- Motor Vehicle
"This arrest warrant was the result of a lengthy accident investigation, in which Mikeworth was the operator of a motor vehicle at the time of the accident which caused serious injuries to his passenger," state police officials said in a news release.

The crash occurred in the early morning hours of May 18, 2023, southbound on I-95 near exit 88 in Groton. State police said Mikeworth lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road to the right, and crashed into a rock face off.
The passenger was ejected from the vehicle, and had to be airlifted via a Life Star helicopter to Hartford Hospital for treatment; Mikeworth suffered minor injuries in the crash, authorities said.

Mikeworth was released after posting bond on bail of $40,000, and he is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on Aug. 5.
Separately, following his release from state police, Mikeworth turned himself in at the Stonington Police Department in connection with an unrelated arrest warrant.
