Metal Found In Tainted Halloween Candy: Groton PD: UPDATE

Groton police said they have received a report of a toddler being injured by tainted Halloween candy​.

GROTON, CT - Police are currently investigating reports of a toddler being given tainted Halloween candy Tuesday night. Parents in Groton are urged to throw away any candy received unless they know it came from a trusted source.

Police said a mother reported Wednesday at approximately 10 a.m. that her 1-year old child suffered a finger injury while handling a piece of candy. The department has not yet determined where the candy came from, according to a release.

Upon investigation, officers discovered that a small, thin piece of metal was located within the wrapper of a Snickers fun size candy bar, police said.

While the dangerous metal was only located in one candy bar so far, police said there could be more pieces located in other candy wrappers.

Police said the piece of metal appeared to be hidden in such a way that it could easily be missed.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the young girl is the only apparent victim, according to police.

Police said the department is conducting an aggressive investigation into the matter. Officers are also aware that reports about the matter are circulating on social media.

All families are asked to check their candy closely and contact police if they locate any foreign objects in or around the candy.
