​Task Force Arrests 3, Seize Over 5 Ounces of Crack Cocaine in Groton

Police said the Regional Community Enhancement Task Force arrested three men and seized over five ounces of crack cocaine

GROTON, CT - The Regional Community Enhancement Task Force arrested three men and seized over 5 ounces of crack cocaine Thursday, police said. Officers also seized a large amount of cash.

Police said task force officers initiated a motor vehicle stop in the area of Route 12 at approximately 1:26 p.m. The suspects attempted to conceal drugs from officers during the stop but were unsuccessful, according to a release. (To sign up for Groton breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

The stop lead officers back to a motel within the Town of Groton, where even more crack cocaine was seized. All three were subsequently arrested.

Officers seized 151 grams (approximately 5.3 ounces) of crack cocaine and over $2000 in cash during the investigation.

  • Ronald Hart, 34, of New London, charged with possession of narcotics, tampering with evidence and interfering with an officer
  • Jermaine Smith, 32, of no permanent address, charged with possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession/sale of narcotics
  • Eric Malloy, 34, of Waterford, charged with possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of narcotics

Smith was held on a $100,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court Thursday. Malloy was given a $5000 non surety bond with a court date of May 17, and Hart was given a $2500 non-surety bond.

The Regional Community Enhancement Task Force is comprised of Detectives and Officers from southeastern Connecticut formed to combat the heroin epidemic in the area and to improve the quality of life for citizens.
