Two Suspects, One A Teenager, Charged In Groton Daytime Shooting

A shooting Sunday near Laurelwood Road left one person with a gunshot wound and two arrested and charged, one a teenage boy, police said.

GROTON, CT—A shooting Sunday near Laurelwood Road left one person with a gunshot wound and two arrested and charged, one a teenage boy, police said.

Groton Town Police arrested Robert D. Thomas, 22, of New London and a 16-year-old white male in connection with the shooting of an unnamed male at around 5 p.m. in the woods near Laurelwood Road.

The person who was shot was taken to L+M Hospital before police even arrived. Officers found the two suspects "in the area" around 45 minutes after arriving on the scene.

Police said the shooting wasn't random and the victim and suspects know each other. That victim, police said, was in stable condition and receiving treatment for a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Thomas was charged with first-degree assault and carrying a weapon in a motor vehicle. He was held on $150,000 bond. He was scheduled to be arraigned in New London Superior Court today.

The juvenile was charged with criminal liability for first-degree assault. He was booked at the Groton Police Department and then transferred to the Hartford Juvenile Detention Center.
