Viewfinder: "Every Child is a Winner" With Upward Basketball

Every Saturday, children of all ages gather at Gallup Hill Baptist Church for the Upward Basketball games from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.  Joan Disco directs the basketball program, and Pamela Jo Michaud is cheerleading director.  The focus of both programs is on building moral character and encouraging positive feedback.  Scripture is read at every practice.

"The goal is to make that every child has the opportunity to score a basket," Disco said.  Each child receives equal playing time, and the motto is, "every child is a winner." 

Volunteers run the program, now in its eighth season, with 164 children.  The program has boys from kindergarten to eighth grade, and girls from kindergarten to twelfth grade.
