Woman Sentenced In Groton Homicide Case: Report

A woman charged in the death of Groton teen has been sentenced to prison, according to a report.

GROTON, CT — A woman has been sentenced in connection with the death of a 17-year-old from Groton.

Erica Cherry was sentenced to 15 years in prison, suspended after five years, for accessory to homicide and intentional cruelty to persons, according to WTNH News-8. Cherry will also serve five years of probation.

She was charged in connection with the death of D'Nazia Uzzle, who was found unresponsive at her home in New London in April 2023.

According to the state Medical Examiner's Office, the cause of Uzzle's death was attributed to “a physical altercation with neck compression and blunt injuries.”

Uzzle was a student in the New London school system at the time of her death.

Cherry and her son, N'Shon Cherry, were arrested in September 2023. N'Shon Cherry is next scheduled to appear in court Aug. 3, WTNH News-8 reported.
