Woman Suffers Serious Head Injury In Mystic Bicycle-Car Crash: Police

A 68-year-old woman suffered a serious injury and was airlifted to the hospital following a crash Sunday afternoon.

GROTON, CT — A bicyclist suffered a serious head injury following a crash Sunday afternoon, according to police.

Police responded to a 911 call at 2:38 p.m. reporting a crash between a car and a bicyclist in the area of Allyn Street and Edgecomb Street in the Mystic section of Groton.

Police arrived to find the bicyclist in the road, unconscious, with a serious head injury. The bicyclist, a 68-year-old woman, was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

She was transported by ambulance to L&M Hospital, then airlifted to Hartford Hospital for treatment.

The car involved in the crash, a Honda CRV, was also still at the scene. The driver and the two passengers in the car were not injured.

A police investigation showed the bicyclist was traveling northbound on Allyn Street when she traveled into the northbound lane and struck the vehicle, according to police.

Allyn Street between Sandy Hollow Road and Edgecomb Street was closed to traffic while police investigated the accident but has since reopened.

This accident remains under investigation.
