4th Annual Guilford Police Voluntary Gun Buy-Back Nets 72 Firearms

GUILFORD, CT — Saturday, Guilford police in collaboration with the Ethan Miller Strong Foundation, and as part of the statewide #Keep Kids Safe CT initiative, held its fourth annual voluntary gun buy-back and safe firearm storage event.

The purpose of the gun buy-back is to remove unwanted firearms from the community. And, to provide safe gun storage options with free gun safes and locking mechanisms to citizens interested in safe and responsible storage options for their firearms, according to Guilford Police Deputy Chief Christopher Massey.

In exchange for turning in a firearm, citizens received gift cards - $25 for a single/double shot derringer type weapon, $50 for a rifle/shotgun, $100 for a handgun, and $200 for an assault weapon.

72 firearms were turned in during the event to include; 35 handguns, 37 rifles/shotguns (including 1 assault type weapon), as well as 17 BB/Pellet guns and assorted ammunition. More than 50 gun safes were distributed during the event as well.

Residents are also reminded that they can turn in unwanted weapons for destruction to the Guilford Police Department at any time.
