GUILFORD, CT — Car thieves continue to hit the town of Guilford, according to police, who reported five stolen vehicles over the past two weeks — all with keys left inside of them. The most recent theft occurred Monday morning around 6:30 a.m., police noted.

"Dozens of cars that criminals tried to enter but were locked so they moved on to roughly a dozen unlocked cars they entered," police said on Facebook. The department also posted a video that shows multiple angles from a home in Guilford where criminals appear to try and enter locked and unlocked cars.

"It is important to know that they move [on] to unlocked cars because they are quick and easy targets," police added. "Criminals return to areas where they were successful. We know this because we have had cars stolen and unlocked cars entered from the same residences more than once…. So please… lock your cars everywhere and every time…. No exceptions."
