The Guilford Newcomers & Neighbors Club is partnering with The Guilford Foundation (TGF) to support area students by raising funds for the Guilford Public School lunch program, helping ensure every child has access to nutritious meals each day.
The program benefits students and families who qualify for free or reduced-price meals and helps fill gaps for those facing financial challenges. As Janet Calabro, the school district’s Director of Dining Services, shared, “We are a nonprofit department that runs independently of the Board of Education budget, and we have families yearly who cannot afford their school meals. It is a tricky business, so any help is wonderful.”
As a community foundation, TGF serves as a hub for local philanthropy, connecting people who care with causes that matter and helping ensure generosity stays local, where it can have the greatest impact.
To encourage community support, Guilford Newcomers & Neighbors will match donations up to $500, and the Foundation will match an additional $1,000, tripling the impact of many gifts and creating an opportunity for neighbors to come together around a simple but meaningful need.
For more than 50 years, the Guilford Newcomers & Neighbors Club has helped people build friendships and connections across the shoreline through social activities, civic involvement, and community service. This fundraiser reflects the same spirit of neighbors helping neighbors.
“We believe local philanthropy often starts with people recognizing a need close to home and choosing to do something about it,” said The Guilford Foundation Executive Director Liza Janssen Petra. “We are proud to amplify the Guilford Newcomers & Neighbors efforts to make sure students in our community have the meals they need to learn and thrive.”
With the community’s support, this partnership can make a difference for local students and families. Donations to support the school lunch program will be collected through May 30.
