GUILFORD, CT — The Guilford Agricultural Society will host its annual Community Ag Day on Saturday, May 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Guilford Fairgrounds.
The free event is intended to celebrate Guilford’s agricultural heritage while promoting agricultural education through exhibits, demonstrations and hands-on activities for families and children.
Organizers said the event will feature participation from several 4-H groups in New Haven and Middlesex counties, along with Future Farmers of America programs, including The Sound School in New Haven. The school provides agriculture education opportunities to students from communities without local farming access.
Other participating organizations are expected to include the UConn Environmental Agriculture Department, the Shellfish Commission, the New Haven County Farm Bureau and the Connecticut Department of Agriculture.
Planned activities include educational displays focused on animal husbandry, bee pollination and maple syrup production, as well as a pedal tractor pull and agricultural equipment exploration area for children. The Farm Museum on the fairgrounds will also be open with antique farm equipment and interactive exhibits.
The event is also scheduled to include a farmers market with local produce, food and ice cream trucks, farm games and livestock, including cows, sheep and goats. Activities such as "Touch a Cow" are also planned.
