The Guilford Police Department Is Hiring: Details

GUILFORD, CT — The Guilford Police Department is accepting applications for full-time, lateral-entry police officers.

Applicants must be Police Officer Standards and Training Council-certified officers in good standing or have retired in good standing and maintained their certification.

Candidates must pass a written examination, oral interview, background investigation, polygraph examination and psychological and medical examinations, including drug screening. Officers must live within 20 miles of Guilford within 18 months of their appointment.

The position pays $45.08 per hour, or $93,766.40 annually, for officers with at least two years of experience. Those with three or more years of experience will earn $48.09 per hour, or $100,027.20 annually, which is also the top-step salary.

Benefits include health, life, short-term disability and long-term disability insurance, along with paid holidays, vacation, sick leave and personal time. Officers also receive a uniform allowance and education incentive.

The position includes a 401(a) retirement plan with an 8 percent employee contribution and a 13 percent town match.

Special assignments within the department include the South Central Regional SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiations, Regional Dive Team, School Resource Officer and DARE programs, Crime Prevention Unit, Bicycle Patrol, Motorcycle Unit, Traffic Unit and Regional Traffic Team, and Peer Support Team.
