GUILFORD, CT — Students went back to class in Guilford on Sept. 3, and police have posted several safety tips on Facebook to ensure a good start to the new school year.
Here are some tips from police:
- Children will be walking, riding bikes, and waiting at bus stops. Slow down and give them plenty of space when passing by.
- The speed limit in all school zones is 25 mph. Make sure to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks.
- Always stop for school buses! If the stop sign is out and the red lights are flashing, that means stop! Illegally passing a school bus can result in a very expensive ticket, not to mention putting the lives and safety of our students at risk.
- Put phones down and eliminate distractions while driving, especially in school zones and drop-off areas.
- While posting "first day of school" photos of your child with a custom sign is a fun tradition, oversharing personal information can compromise your family's privacy and online safety. Skip sharing sensitive information like your child's age, birthday, grade, teacher's name, or bus number, and check your privacy settings before hitting post.
