Guilford Free Library To Host Closing Reception For Local Artist's Exhibition

GUILFORD, CT — The Guilford Free Library will host the closing day of "Meet the Artist: Rosanne Vance Hoblitzelle," an exhibition highlighting the six-decade career of Guilford-area artist Rosanne Vance Hoblitzelle.

The event will be held Saturday, Sept. 19, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., immediately following the Guilford Fair parade. Hoblitzelle will meet visitors and discuss her artwork, and light refreshments will be served.

Hoblitzelle studied art in Rome, Georgia, and at Shorter College. Early in her career, she produced scientific illustrations of fossilized bird and animal bones for the Yale Peabody Museum. She also completed illustration projects for the Connecticut State Lottery Commission.

She later founded The Sand Castle at Bittersweet Farms and co-founded Hoblitzelle Graphics. Her work has included oils, watercolors, sculpture, three-dimensional paper art, photography and computer-assisted graphics.

In 1997, encephalitis left Hoblitzelle with aphasia and physical limitations that made many traditional forms of art difficult. She subsequently turned to digital art, combining shapes, colors and her own photographs to create compositions.

Hoblitzelle, 89, continues to create digital works and hand-beaded jewelry. She lives in Branford with her husband, Bill.
