5 Things To Know In Guilford: Voter Registration Deadline, Charter Vote, Marina Dredging And More

GUILFORD, CT — Guilford voters have until Friday to register by mail or online for the Nov. 3 election, when they will also decide on a set of charter changes, and the Marina Commission takes up dredging, slip fees and a marina office renovation.

1. Friday Is The Deadline To Register By Mail Or Online
When: Deadline Friday, Oct. 16; early voting starts Monday, Oct. 19
Where: Guilford Town Hall, 31 Park St.
What to know: Mail-in voter registration applications must be postmarked, and online and DMV registrations received, by 11:59 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, according to the registrars. New 18-year-olds, new citizens and new residents can still register at the Registrar of Voters office until noon Nov. 2. Early voting runs Oct. 19 through Nov. 1 at Town Hall, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with hours extended to 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 27 and Oct. 29, and same-day registration is available during early voting.

2. Charter Changes Go To Voters Nov. 3
When: On the Nov. 3 ballot as a single question
Where: Guilford Town Hall, 31 Park St.
What to know: Voters will decide on charter revisions that the Board of Selectmen accepted Aug. 24, according to the town. Among the changes: losing candidates for first selectman would no longer win a seat on the Board of Selectmen; voters could vote for as many selectmen as there are open seats; and the Annual Budget Meeting would be informational only, with the budget decided at referendum. Titles would change to Select Board and first selectperson.

3. Marina Commission Takes Up Dredging, Slip Fees
When: Tuesday, Oct. 13, 7 p.m. (Microsoft Teams)
Where: Online; Guilford Town Hall, 31 Park St.
What to know: The Marina Commission will discuss its dredging permit, a marsh rehabilitation project, a grant application, renovating the marina office building, 2027 slip fees and deposits, a feasibility study on access for people with disabilities and a dock finger stabilization project, according to the agenda.

4. Fall Bouquets With A Connecticut Flower Grower
When: Tuesday, Oct. 13, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.; registration required
Where: Quonnipaug Room, Guilford Community Center, 32 Church St.
What to know: Floral designer Michael Russo, a founding member of the CT Flower Collective, will make two small bouquets with seasonal fall flowers and talk about the collective, according to the town calendar. 5. Police Warn Of Fake Microsoft Teams Links
What to know: Guilford police warn that scammers are sending fake virtual meeting invitations with Microsoft branding to steal Microsoft 365 log-ins or install malware, according to the town. Warning signs include unexpected invitations, pressure to join right away, odd web addresses and requests to sign in again or install software.
