GUILFORD, CT — Guilford residents voted at a special town meeting on Oct. 22 to approve the $800,000 purchase of 63 acres from the Bartlett family next to Lake Quonnipaug.
The vote was 106 in favor and 19 opposed, according to the results posted by the town.
"The Town of Guilford will preserve the property as open space," the town said in an announcement. "The Conservation Commission will discuss plans to blaze hiking trails from the Lake Quonnipaug parking area through the property – which boasts the summit of Quonnipaug Mountain overlooking the lake."
Additionally, Guilford noted it will pursue a state open space grant that could cover up to 65 percent of the purchase price.
The town noted that funding is also available from the open space bond fund that Guilford voters approved at referendum in 2022.
