Applications Being Accepted For Citizens Police Academy

GUILFORD, CT — Speaking from experience, a police ride-along is an exciting, and eye-opening experience. No one wants to ride in the back of a police cruiser, but riding in the front can be a lot of fun and is a window into how police work.

In Guilford, if you're age 16 and up and pass a background check, you can apply to be one of the 30 people accepted to the 10-week Citizens Police Academy.

Beginning on March 19, the Academy runs on Thursday nights from 6 to 9 p.m. until May 21.

Open to all Guilford residents over 16, the program "provides insight into the inner workings" of the Guilford Police department and involves "all aspects of law enforcement and includes ride-alongs, a firearms range day with our instructors, in addition to guest speakers from other state and federal agencies."

The free academy is limited to 30 participants and all applicants will be subject to a background check prior to acceptance. Parents of children ages 16-17 will need to complete and submit the permission letter with their child’s application.
