Applications Now Open For 2025 Guilford Police Citizens Academy

The deadline to apply is March 1; class size is limited to 30 people.

GUILFORD, CT — The Guilford Police Department is now accepting applications for the 2025 Guilford Police Citizens Academy which will begin on March 27 and run through May 29.

"As the Department strives for transparency and accessibility, the Citizens Police Academy provides a hands-on opportunity to educate the residents of Guilford on the operations of the Department, while obtaining valuable feedback to enhance police and community relations," police said in a Facebook post. "The Citizens Police Academy will include over 38 hours of instruction taught in three-hour sessions, a ride-along and a range day. Participation requires a commitment of three hours, one night a week, for 10 weeks."

Training includes interactive classroom participation, a department overview, elements of crimes, laws, a range day for weapons familiarization, and a patrol ride-a-long, the department said.

Numerous local, state, and federal agencies will also be providing instruction in fields such as narcotics units, SWAT, and K9 units.

Classes will be held every Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9: p.m. at the Guilford Police Department's community room, 400 Church St.

Those interested in applying should contact Lt. Martina Jakober at 203-453-8061. Applicstions are available at the department and online.

The deadline to apply is March 1; class size is limited to 30 people.

Attendees must be residents, property owners or they must work in Guilford and be 16 years of age or older. Those who are 16 and 17 must have parental permission. A standard background check will be completed on each applicant, the department said.
