GUILFORD, CT — Money was stolen from two neighboring Guilford businesses during break-ins early in the morning on Wednesday, according to the Guilford Police Department, which is seeking information from the public to help in the investigation.

Similar crimes were also reported in Madison. Police there said they're currently working with Guilford authorities to identify a suspect.

The burglaries in Guilford occurred at Snip Snaps Kids Cuts and Three Girls Vegan Eatery at approximately 3 a.m. on June 11, a news release from GPD Chief Christopher Massey said. The businesses are both located within Guilford Plaza in the 600 block of Boston Post Road.

"The burglaries were perpetrated by a lone male suspect wearing a dark long sleeve shirt, jeans, tan work boots, yellow gloves, and a ski mask," Massey said. "Forced entry was made to both businesses and small sums of money were taken from each. At this time, the investigation remains active."

Snip Snaps Kids Cuts posted a photo to Facebook showing damage to the side of the building.

"Someone smashed through the concrete wall in the back and stole all our money," the post said.

Three Girls Vegan Eatery also posted a photo to Facebook Wednesday of a broken front door window.

The business launched a GoFundMe fundraiser to help recover from damage.

"Unfortunately, early this morning, our restaurant was broken into around 3:00 AM.," Brittany Guerra, owner of Three Girls Vegan Eatery, said in the fundraiser's description. "The person who entered caused significant damage to our property and stole from us. While we do have security footage, the individual was wearing a ski mask and cannot be identified at this time."

Guerra said the business is pursuing filing an insurance claim.

"The reality is that insurance often does not cover everything — especially for a small independent restaurant," Guerra noted. "Between replacing stolen items, repairing the damage, and adding extra security measures to prevent this from happening again, the unexpected financial strain is very real for our little business."

As of Thursday afternoon, the fundraiser had garnered over $4,000 out of a goal of $7,000.

Police are asking residents and business owners in the area of Guilford Plaza to check available surveillance footage during the timeframe between 2 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. on June 11 for any sign of suspicious activity or the suspect.

Those with more information should contact Guilford Police Det. Carmelo Rivera at 203-453-8061.

"We are deeply appreciative of our partnership with the Guilford Community and look forward to working together to advance this investigation," Massey said.
