A Bright Idea: Joe's Amazing Lights Raises Money for Make-A-Wish(R) Connecticut

For the past 15 years, Joe Petrowski, Jr. has been decorating his Guilford home with thousands of lights for the holidays. Each year, he has chosen a local charity to raise money for, and this past year he decided to raise money for Make-A-Wish Connecticut.

Joe Petrowski, Sr. described in an interview that Joe, Jr. was always fascinated with holiday lights. In fact, even when Joe Jr. was young, he would look to assist his father with decorating the outside of their home. This is not the only way in which Joe’s Amazing Lights is a family effort, though. It was posted on Joe’s Amazing Lights’ Facebook page that Joe cuts off every tag on the strings of lights, and he sometimes asks his 97-year-old grandmother to help. With this family effort, Joe’s Amazing Lights is able to put on a spectacular show year after year.

The show of Joe’s Amazing Lights has evolved over the past 15 years, and Joe, Jr. continues to include new surprises each year. For example, the display of lights is synchronized with music through a radio channel, implemented in 2007, so that excited viewers from far and wide can tune in. Joe also added moving lights and new, high-technology DMX controls to the show in the past year, bringing the overall audience experience to a whole new level.

In the last 15 years, Joe Petrowski, Jr. has raised over $60,000 for charity, and this year, he raised an incredible amount of $14,240.00 for Make-A-Wish Connecticut. This will greatly help Make-A-Wish Connecticut in their mission of granting the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy.
