As this week comes to a close, I suspect you, like me, are glad to have the Tropical Storm behind us save for some remaining clean up. Eversource’s website states that the Guilford outage status is “less than two”. Many of you have been frustrated by Eversource’s lack of accessibility, clarity, timely information and overall performance. Our Emergency Management Team is in the process of identifying issues and concerns for submission to the Public Utility Regulatory Authority as they have opened up an investigation into the utility companies’ response during and after the storm.

I want to take a moment to thank Guilford’s First Responders, Public Works and Park & Rec employees for, once again, stepping up in a time of crisis. Their commitment to protecting and restoring our community was on full display over these past 10 days. Public Works will continue to work to remove debris along our roadways and will be working throughout the weekend. The Stump Dump will remain open every day through Saturday 8/25. We will assess the return to our normal schedule late next week.

There was one new confirmed Coronavirus case reported this week bringing our total to 111. As a result of your efforts we have the lowest infection rates amongst our surrounding towns.

Like many other traditional activities, Park & Rec has canceled the very popular summer concert series. Given the current gathering restrictions and the very popular and well attended shows, we were not confident that we could abide by the guidelines and restrict crowd sizes. We look forward to the return of the concerts next summer.

The Board of Education is holding another special meeting on Monday at 7:00 pm to provide updates on the re-opening plan. It is a virtual meeting and details can be found on the
District website.

Our local businesses continue to face significant challenges and I would ask you to consider buying locally whenever possible. Many of our merchants have set up on line buying and are
still offering curbside pickup.

Have a wonderful weekend, and please continue to comply with all safety guidelines, social distancing, hand washing, and the wearing of a mask when you cannot comply with the six-foot separation. Our continued success in fighting this pandemic depends on it.

Thank you and stay safe.
