'Broken Record': Cops Beg Folks to Lock Cars

Car thefts and break-ins on the Shoreline are a ubiquitous problem, mostly because folks don't lock car doors and some leave keys inside.

GUILFORD, CT — It's a property crime that can be prevented. When people leave their cars unlocked, thieves open doors and steal what's inside. When people don't lock their car doors and, leave keys or key fobs inside, thieves steal the cars. It's really that simple. And local police have for a very long time been pleading with people to do the very least: lock doors.

Guilford Police bag this drum often, and Thursday, sounded off on Facebook, though always in humorous, but serious way. Wednesday night, a car was stolen and a number were broken into. In all cases, the doors were unlocked and in the case of the stolen car, keys fob inside.

"Guilford was visited again last night by some criminals looking to enter and steal cars. One vehicle with a key FOB left in it was stolen out of an open garage and recovered in New Britain. Other unlocked vehicles were also entered in the West Lake, New England and Briarwood Drive areas. It is important to note that locked vehicles were not entered ...we repeat."
