Car Burglaries On The Rise Again In Guilford

Over the last few weeks we have seen an increase in car burglaries at Guilford Trailheads.... all over town... 2 in the last 2 days....

The only cars these criminals are entering, contain purses or wallets in plain view....
Please continue to enjoy your beautiful hikes through our amazing trails... but leave the purse or wallet at home... or hide it before you park...

Some crimes only occur because the opportunity is presented... it is important to protect yourself. We know... we all should be able to leave our car doors unlocked, our purses on the seat, our computers in the back seat, our houses unlocked.... but you can’t.... you just can’t.

Unfortunately, not everyone has a moral compass that points in the direction of doing the right thing... some people make mistakes, some people are faced with choices in life that lead them in the wrong direction, and yes... there are some people who are just bad people...

There are options for people in these situations... opportunities to turn their lives around. Whether they try to do the right thing is something we cannot control. We can only encourage positive change, offer help or sometimes.... just listen.

What we can control is preventing opportunity for people to be victims of crimes. Please share this so we can all work together to prevent these types of crimes not only here in Guilford, but to all the places that follow our page.

And yes, this is a real picture... of a real car... at a trailhead.... with a purse in the front seat... beaconing like a lighthouse...
