Coast Guard Academy Cadet Jazz Band to Perform in Benefit Concert

The free concert, which will benefit the Guilford Food Bank.

PUBLIC INVITED TO ENJOY THIS SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY

The amazing Coast Guard Academy Cadet Jazz Band will bring its brand of jazz and swing to Saint John’s Episcopal Church in North Guilford on Thursday, April 23 at 7 p.m.

This one hour concert is free to the public, but a good will offering will be taken to support the Guilford Food Bank. The cadets will perform under the direction of Chief Warrant Officer Ian Frenkel. The Cadet Jazz Band was established in 1959 to entertain and delight audiences with music from the American Jazz Heritage.

At concerts throughout the United States, audiences experience the contemporary big band sounds of Maynard Ferguson as well as the exciting music of Glenn Miller and other luminaries of the swing band era. Concerts also showcase the Riverside Jam Dixieland Jazz Band and feature male and female vocalists. They have performed at the Medal of Honor Awards at Ellis Island, at Disney World, Fanueil Hall in Boston, and South Street Seaport in New York City.

Band Director Frenkel is a former Coast Guard Band member and currently an adjunct instructor of piano at Connecticut College. He also co-directs combined US Coast Guard Academy-Conn College Jazz Band and Wind Ensemble.

Saint John’s Episcopal Church is located on historic Meetinghouse Hill at 129 Ledge Hill Road, North Guilford. The public is warmly invited to take part in this very special musical and charitable event. Refreshments will be served in the church’s hall.
