Connex Donates Nearly $1,000 Melissa Jones Elementary School PTO Playground Revitalization Project

Donations collected through the Coins-for-Change program at Hamden branch

Contributions from visitors at Connex Credit Union’s Hamden Branch during the third quarter of 2016 have helped make a significant impact for one local community project. As a part of its philanthropic program ConnexCares, Connex Credit Union recently donated nearly $1,000, from the fees collected by Connex’s coin-cashing machine at their Hamden branch, to the Melissa Jones Elementary School PTO Playground Revitalization Project. The Coins-for-Change program charges a five percent fee to members, a seven percent fee to non-members and donates this money to charitable organizations in the local community, contributing more than $10,000 annually.

“Our partnership with Connex, and their support of neighboring communities, exemplifies the communal foundation of this revitalization project,” said Sara Prior, chair, Melissa Jones Elementary School PTO. “These funds will help us in our quest to construct a new outdoor playground for our community.”

The goal of the Melissa Jones Elementary School PTO Playground Revitalization Project is to reinvigorate the current structure at the school, which was built as a community project in 1989, so it can continue its legacy for future generations. They seek to create a high-quality outdoor learning environment that promotes exercise, education, exploration and play. The heart of this project is driven by children and the community.
