Coronavirus Guilford: Meals On Wheels For Any Resident In Need

The Meals on Wheels program run by Guilford Interfaith Volunteers is available to help any at-risk person at home in need of meal delivery.

GUILFORD, CT — Christi Burton, director of Meals on Wheels for the Guilford Interfaith Volunteers, said that after First Selectman Matt Hoey issued his statement about the town’s response to the new coronavirus, and mentioned that volunteers are needed to help deliver meals, the phone started ringing.

Since last week more than 75 people have called to offer their help. BUrton said she and staff are in the process of responding to those offers of help from “the very generous good people in Guilford,” but what she really wanted people to know is that Meals on Wheels is available to anyone who may need the food assistance.

The program does not take state dollars and so is not restricted to serving just the elderly home-bound. The program can serve “anyone who is at risk,” and especially, those without family nearby to help them.

“Our program is flexible. How often we deliver meals, the cost, all of that we can work with, any issues. We don’t say no to anyone in need,” she said.

So people who are at home and need meals delivered, no matter the reason, should call Meals on Wheels, where their confidentiality is respected, Burton said. She said the people Meals on Wheels in Guilford is most concerned about are the at-risk populations who are at home alone with no help.
